Of all 31,533 Cessna 150-152's manufactured, one particular
airplane, serial number F150-0037, registration G-AWAW, stands out from the rest
for it's unique place in history. In the spring of 1980, Janette Schönburg, a
young British pilot, flew G-AWAW from London, England to Darwin,
Australia. Schönburg's l1,000 mile trip commemorated the 1930 flight along the
same route made by pioneering aviator Amy Johnson. Jan Schönburg crossed 26
international borders during turbulent political times, a nearly unimaginable
challenge in a 100 horsepower Cessna 150. G-AWAW now sits in warehouse in
London, scheduled to be scrapped this fall. Cessna 150-152 Club members
have made it their mission to save this historic airplane and restore it for
display at air shows & museums. PLEASE HELP SAVE G-AWAW. See
www.g-awaw.org to make a donation. |
